In the JC, prominent chef and food writer, Denise Phillips, named Wolfson Hillel one of her ‘food champions’, describing the school as an “example for every school on how to operate nutritious and successful school dinners.”
Our school meals are healthy, tasty and good value for money; all our food is prepared to rigorous nutritional standards. We have consulted with the children on the menu choices. We regularly review our ingredients to ensure that they contain minimum additives and no harmful products whilst ensuring that all products we serve are kosher. The school’s kitchen is meaty and is supervised by the London Beth Din.
There are choices each day and where possible, we cater to individual dietary requirements. We cater to children with allergies and intolerances through a shared partnership meeting with the parents to discuss the risks and any adjustments required to the menu.
The kitchen runs on a three-week cycle and lunches are paid half-termly in advance.
All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 automatically receive free school meals through the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme—no application is needed.
However, for children in Year 3 and above, parents are expected to pay for school lunches. We fully understand that this additional cost can be challenging for some families.
If you receive certain benefits, your child may be eligible for income-based Free School Meals
(FSM)—and applying for this also enables the school to receive Pupil Premium funding.
You may be eligible if you receive any of the following:
