Physical Education

Vision

At Wolfson Hillel, our vision for Physical Education (PE) is to inspire all children to lead healthy, active lives through a high-quality, inclusive curriculum that fosters progression, mental well-being and a lifelong love of physical activity. Rooted in the National Curriculum, we provide a stepping stone from foundational learning in EYFS to competitive opportunities by Year 6, empowering children to thrive both physically and emotionally.

How we teach PE

  • Every class from Nursery to Year 6 is taught 2 PE lessons each week – one taught by our PE specialist teacher and the second by the class teacher.
  • Lessons include an indoor gym session and and an outdoor PE lesson.
  • Teachers follow the ‘GetSet4PE’ scheme which provides clear progression in skills and knowledge for all pupils.
  • The key concepts of Invasion Games, Sending Receiving, Net and Wall Games and Striking and Fielding are all taught across the curriculum and are built upon each year.
  • Lessons follow a clear format of: Ready and Retrieval, Develop and Apply, Reflect and Review.
  • There are many enrichment opportunities within PE, including during daily 2.30pm enrichment and in Maccabi and local borough competitions in a range of sports.

How we ensure progress in PE for all pupils

  • The PE curriculum is designed to ensure progress for all pupils from EYFS-KS2.
  • Assessment takes place in every lesson to inform future planning and to enable targeted feedback and opportunities for growth to take place.
  • A diverse range of sports and activities ensures that every child finds an area they enjoy and excel in.
  • Working with different stakeholders (Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Enfield PE team) to allow children to reach their sporting potential.
  • EYFS: Children develop fundamental movement skills—balance, agility and coordination—through active play and exploration.
  • KS1: Pupils build on these foundations, learning basic skills such as running, jumping, throwing and catching while engaging in simple games that encourage collaboration.
  • Lower KS2: Skills are refined and applied to more complex activities, introducing game tactics, problem-solving and teamwork.
  • Upper KS2: Pupils master techniques and strategies for a range of sports, experience outdoor challenges and develop leadership and analytical skills.
  • Inter-school clusters offer opportunities to represent the school, promoting inclusivity by encouraging participation from as many children as possible.
