We are very lucky that Wolfson Hillel is on the site of an old secondary school and therefore we have a variety of areas to enhance our learning.
The large assembly hall is a fantastic space with its own stage, projector, lighting, sound-system and piano, used for weekly assemblies, year-group performances, chaggim celebrations and the hugely successful end of Year 6 show.
We have a large main playground with pitches, an exciting climbing frame and a multi-use games area. We also have a smaller playground exclusively connected to the Year 1 classrooms.
We also have a separate playground for our nursery and reception children which is used all day long for learning!
At Wolfson Hillel Primary, all the children from Nursery through to Year 6 have opportunities to enjoy physical exercise in our purpose-built gymnasium. Children of all abilities are able to perform in a range of activities enhancing their physical competence and confidence, whilst building on their skills and physical development.
We take part in Enfield and Maccabi events and compete against other primary schools in sports such as football and netball. Each year, we represent our school at the Israeli Dance Festival and the Gymnastics competition.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated dining hall at Wolfson Hillel which caters delicious and nutritious food for all children, ensuring all allergies and dietary requirements are considered.
We are very proud of our bright and spacious school library which has a diverse range of books, both Jewish and secular, fiction and non-fiction, for all ages from the Foundation Stage through to Year 6. The library has a computerised database system and the books are shelved using a colour-coded scheme and the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
Once a week, all the classes have a library lesson during which they have time to borrow books, research topics or read. We have a wide variety of reference books including poetry, history, geography, multicultural, technology and many more.
Our Jewish fiction books are varied and suitable for all age groups. The Jewish non-fiction books are categorised under several headings including Jewish Living, Jewish Year, Jewish History, Tefillah, Torah, Israel, Holocaust and Hebrew Language.
As part of the D&T curriculum, children from Nursery to Year 6 have an opportunity to use our state-of-the-art teaching kitchen once a term to make savoury or sweet dishes. They learn vital skills such as: mixing, chopping, baking, kneading and frying.
We have a music room with a wide selection of instruments including a piano, African drums, tambourines and recorders to name a few!
Our specialist music teacher, Mrs Ferber, is fantastic and not only takes each year group’s music lessons but she also runs the school choir and orchestra. Children have the opportunity to take part in choir festivals and Holocaust Memorial Day events. Mrs Ferber and her piano also accompany assemblies and year-group performances such as the Year 6 play, Purim show and Chanukah celebrations.
We are lucky to have a sensory room that is kitted out with lights, beanbags and other sensory calming equipment. Designed to help children regulate, it is used across the school throughout the day.
The hub is a calm breakout space that is used for small group teaching/interventions and our indoor lunch club. At lunch times, a member of staff runs engaging activities such as colouring, lego and board games. This is in place for children who might find the busy playground overwhelming and need a more supported social environment.
